MIT CSAIL

Today we’re launching Ascent Lab, a browser-based platform for designing virtual robots and exploring how they learn to walk or climb.

We want more people to be able to experiment with robot learning firsthand. In https://t.co/nrVe8oRiTG, you can modify a robot’s body and train its movement controller, then share the result for someone else to inspect and continue.

Opening up that experience also means finding a way to sustain the computation behind it. Our interest in crypto is to explore whether participants can support the experiments they choose to run and, eventually, fund challenges that reward others for finding verified solutions.

That’s the model we’re testing with $ASCENT, launching today on Solana alongside the platform.

The token pays for experiment execution from day one. Prices are quoted in dollars and converted into tokens at checkout, with revenue from those payments covering computation and the platform’s infrastructure. Participant-funded challenges are planned for a later release.

Training and simulation run offchain. Solana handles payments, with reward settlement planned as challenges are introduced.

The first experiment is free, so you can try Ascent before purchasing any tokens.
