Yann LeCun 发帖回忆 1986 年 6 月第一次赴美参加学术会议。他在 MIT 的会议上展示了关于多层神经网络的海报，在 Thinking Machines Inc 举办的招待会上第一次见到 Marvin Minsky。Minsky 对神经网络能学会计算两个二进制数的乘积感到惊讶，而 LeCun 早已做过这一实验。随后他前往 CMU 参加第一届 Connectionist Summer School，并应 Bell Labs 之邀在 Holmdel 做了报告。
June 1986. It was my first conference in the US and my first time visiting MIT. Had a poster on multilayer nets. I met Marvin Minsky for the first time at the reception hosted by Thinking Machines Inc (the original one that built the Connection Machine). He was surprised that you could train a neural net to compute the product of two binary numbers (I had done the experiment). I was on my way to the first Connectionist Summer School at CMU.
